Puerto Rico has so many amazing beach towns. Isla Verde (Green Island) is just fifteen minutes east of San Juan. It offers the benefits of city living with a beautiful beach to escape to.
Coconut palm trees line Isla Verde Beach. The warm water of this Carribean beach is what sets it apart. A variety of activities will keep both children and adults occupied. There are plenty of casinos, dance clubs and restaurants to choose from. The local empanadas are definitely worth a try.
Low end and luxury options abound when it comes to hotels in Isla Verde. There is something available near the beach for almost every budget. For example, El San Juan Hotel and Casino is on the expensive end. That said, Borinquen Beach Inn is a cheaper option near the beach.
Plenty of parking is available near the beach as well.
Travelers have reported that there isn’t a trace left of Hurricane Maria’s damage on the beaches of Isla Verde. The beach is clean and uncrowded.
Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent. If you take a walk along the beach you may not find many shells but instead might stumble upon a few sand dollars.
If you’d rather jet ski, snorkel or just go for a swim, those are fun options in Isla Verde too.
For twenty bucks you can take a taxi back to San Juan. Although renting a car is ideal, there are buses that will take you around town for .75. The SITRAC is a free bus that only goes around certain areas of Isla Verde.
Isla Verde is a melting pot of both wealthy and low-income neighborhoods. It was home to the boy band Menudo and Ricky Martin. So you never know who you might be rubbing elbows with when you vacation in picturesque Isla Verde.
