Fifteen miles west of San Juan, the town of Dorado sits along the Atlantic coast. Tourists love this spot for its golf courses, luxury hotels, and its jaw-dropping beach.
Conde Naste Traveler featured an article in 2018 that compared Dorado to Bali, which is a pretty nice comparison!
Dorado also has a downtown area with a Spanish style town square with its own patron saint, Anthony of Padua. A celebration in his honor is held each year in June. Puerto Rico is home to a large Catholic population, so it’s no surprise that this sort of celebration is part of the culture in Dorado.
One of the big draws of this location is Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. This resort provides a bit of luxury to tourists. It was recently renovated and re-opened after the damage done by hurricane Maria. The property provides guests with two miles worth of beautiful coastline, natural surroundings, and a spa. Before the restoration, the historic resort was host to many famous celebrities including Joan Crawford.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of budget-friendly places in Dorado as well.
The beach in Dorado is well loved for its clean white sand and stunning blue water. It’s a great spot for snorkeling or wind-surfing. There are tennis courts, a playground and lots of restaurants and bars along the strip near the beach.
Another terrific perk is that the beach in Dorado is lesser known so it is less crowded than the beaches closer to San Juan.
There is a parking area and street parking is also available for accessing the beach.
Alternatively, you might just want to bring a picnic, sit on the sand and enjoy the sunset. Don’t forget to take some pictures while you are there. The scenery will make you envied by friends and family alike.
